North Midlands Radio
- NMR was first heard in 1987.
- The format was mostly of pop music, both current chart and oldies, with
free radio news and occasionally free radio recordings were aired. Non-commercial.
- Broadcast times were mostly Sunday evenings and bank holidays. At its peak,
in the late 1980s, NMR was often heard on several Sunday evenings in a row.
- Run by Steve St John, occasionally other DJs - such as Ken Crescendo from
Radio Britannia in South Yorkshire - were heard.
- Mostly pre-recorded programmes were aired.
- When NMR first started, the frequency used was around 105 FM. In 1989 /
1990, other frequencies were used, notably around 98-99 FM.
- Broadcasts took place mostly from the Chesterfield area, although occasionally
broadcasts took place from other areas - including the Peak District, from
where a wide coverage area was obtained and a strong signal was audible in
Clowne.
- Mail address used throughout most of NMR's life was: NMR - Steve St John,
PO Box 5, Hunstanton, Norfolk. This was a commonly used address among pirate
radio stations at the time, until it was closed down in 1989.
- Last heard in August 1993, on 105.5 FM.
