Placement Policy

Before filling out an application to rescue a Rottweiler, please take a few minutes to review this placement policy.

First and most important, each and every one of the Rottweilers listed here will be spayed or neutered. The only exception to this rule is if the dog is not healthy enough to be anesthetized for the procedure to be performed. This requirement is due to the fact that by being altered, the chances of an accidental breeding is eliminated and the adopted dog will never produce more Rottweilers that could end up in a shelter or rescue program in the future. Not only this, but by having them spayed or neutered, they are less likely to develop particular types of cancers. All dogs that are adopted will also be microchipped for identification purposes.

All adopted dogs are required to attend a formal obedience class with proof of attendance returned to the Rescuer. Regardless of your training background with dogs, it is very important that these re-homed dogs get off to a good start from the beginning. Attending an obedience class is a great way to start bonding with your dog and the instructors should be able to help you determine the best approach for your new companion.

Puppies not yet housetrained will only be adopted to homes where they can be let out every two hours and have someone with them most of the time.

We require that the dog be safely contained in a fully enclosed fenced yard or fenced dog run when outside. The dog will never be let to run loose. No dog can be allowed to run free and be safe. The price for this freedom will eventually be injury or death. {i.e. moose attacks, hit by a car, fights with other dogs etc...} Not to mention the conscequences from Animal Control or irate neighbors. When outside of the home or yard the dog must be on-leash and under the control of a responsible adult. You cannot control the enviromnent and having control when confronted with an unexpected situation is important.

**Please note** Some Homeowner's/Renter's insurance company's will CANCEL your policy if you own a Rottweiler. It is your responsibility to contact your agent to find out what your carrier's rules are. If you rent, you will be required to provide the name, address and phone number of your landlord so they can be contacted and give written permission allowing you to keep a Rottweiler on the premises.

The Rottweiler loves being with its people and is a very loyal and devoted breed! If you are not prepared to have a dog laying at your feet, sleeping next to your bed, following you around the house and enjoying your constant companionship, then this breed is not for you.

All applicants should be at least 21 years old (minimum) and currently be living in Alaska. If you cannot meet the requirements mentioned here, please wait to apply until your circumstances change.

Just because an application is filled out, the rescuer is under NO obligation to adopt an animal to any individual.

Please be aware that this is a volunteer program. Everyone involved has full time jobs, our own pets and responsibilities. Application processing can take up to 2-3 weeks. Thank you for being patient.

I have read the placement policy and believe that I meet the above requirements.
