How do I feel about the recent stays of execution for the past 4 guys to have been set dates ?
Well, for one I’m elated, because the stays show that to some degree the courts are looking a little closer at some of the issues we are bringing up. It’s just unfortunate that they couldn’t have done it before it came to near death. And two of the guys were given dates because they had no lawyers to finish out their appeal process.
I believe that the U.S. Supreme Court sent a message to the state of Alabama that the "Good ol’ Boy" system was not going to work any more, that they cannot take a man’s rights and toss them out the window and say, "Well boy, it’s time to die".
I also think that the state of Alabama was very ignorant in giving these two guys dates and citing the reasons as being because they had no representation and could no longer go on in the appeals process, because all they did was give us fuel for the fire. I applaud them for doing so, because they showed that in the state of Alabama the death penalty is being administered and carried out in a cruel callous way. Not to mention it being a vengeful method instead of a deterrence to crime.
The best thing is that these guys are all still alive and are able to fight. And it gives me hope to know that in the past months 4 guys lives were spared and one man was released from death row and prison altogether. I can only hope that this is part of a message that society is receiving convincing them that capital punishment is not the best way to deal with criminals or people wrongfully accused.
Thank you
