Views of a fan

Welcome sports fans, to my new column 'Feel the Heat' (Ring of Fire, get it?) in which I will be expressing some of my views over aspects of the wrestling world that I feel warrant attention. In this, my first EVER column I am going to address the aspect of wrestling that get the most exposure (to the fans), the Main Events.

For a long time in the WWF there has been the ongoing feud between 'The Game' Triple H and 'The People's Champ' The Rock. Now these two have emerged as the two top names in the business this year and unfortunately the main reason has got to be is the amount of injuries that other top names have sustained. Stone Cold, The Undertaker and Mick Foley are the three real top superstars that have all been forced out due to injuries (not so much Foley but he's probably the worst off of the lot anyway). Now I'm not saying that without the injuries to these people Rock and Triple H wouldn't be WWF Title material, but it certainly hasn't held them back.

Think of Wrestlemania. If Stone Cold had been fit he would have been in the main event without a shadow of a doubt, facing the Rock or Triple H (or maybe both). But he wasn't and the WWF obviously didn't feel either that the Rock and Triple H couldn't put on a Wrestlemania Main Event calibre match, or that the other two wrestlers didn't deserve a title shot in the biggest match of the year. Now the first suggestion seems very unlikely considering there putting them in a 60-minute iron man match and the other suggestion seems slightly farfetched too seeing as Big Show was as over and deserving as Stevie Richards (well maybe slightly more than him but you get the idea).

Now me move on to the future of main events for the WWF. Obviously (and hopefully) the Undertaker will get a huge push alongside Kane which should see them form a huge face team battling against pretty much anyone. Then you have Jericho whose push should continue giving him some shots at Triple H just to add a little variation to the tried and tested (many times) formula of Rock vs. Triple H. Rikishi, Big Show. Not to mention the many superb mid-carders that could all excel as main eventers if used properly (Val Venis, Edge, Test, etc). The WWF appears to be overloaded with talent at the moment and we can only hope that these wrestlers are booked well and can show us what they are truly made of.

I have to say as much as I don't think Stone Cold's return at Backlash was a very good idea. I respect what he has to say about only wanting to come back if he can put on a quality match that it going to be worthy of what would be his position as one of the top players. He has had a great career in wrestling and I think that he has the right idea when it comes to returning. Every time a wrestler has returned after their peak they have been only a shadow of their former selves and their ego seems to get the better of them (See WCW).

Well that's it! Hope you enjoyed it! Feel free to send me some feedback on how it can be improved.
