The biggest young superstar in WCW may be planning his way through to an incredible career in the Federation. Wait, before you write me off lets look at the evidence.
1998. After being widely regarded as an imitation of Steve Austin, Goldberg makes a public challenge to the rattlesnake. Stone Cold was the biggest superstar in the industry at that time. Could he have been positioning himself for a future feud with Austin? It would certainly draw WCW fans (to the WWF) who were about the only ones hyped about the challenge.
This year Goldberg hit out at HHH, who just happens to be the best heel in the business and WWF World Champion, for no logical reason in an online interview. He was being questioned about his part in turning WCW around.
"I think that's -- pardon me -- the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. I think I'm going to be instrumental in turning this company (WCW) around. So why the hell would I stay out? I think that's ridiculous. It pains me to even hear that. That probably came from Hunter Hearst Helmsley, who I think is a piece of shit. And I'll throw a challenge out to him to meet me in my backyard, and I'll give him the damn address. I'll even send a car for him." - Bill Goldberg
Days after he returned to WCW after months of being sidelined he offered up the following in an interview with the News Sentinel. He was asked about the possibility of him leaving WCW for another company.
"I've considered it before. It's the first thing I'll consider when my contract ends in three years. First and foremost, this is a business, and you have to put personal feelings aside in business. Since WCW is moving toward what the WWF does programming wise, then, hey, I don't have too much of a problem going over there." - Bill Goldberg
Is this a shout out to the WWF saying "Hey, I'm fit again and I want in!". Maybe, maybe not. But why would he so openly give out critical information like the date his contract ends.
Well, if that wasn't a blatant cry for attention from the WWF then his recent public confrontation with HHH at a licensing convention is. Goldberg reportedly hurled foul language which HHH initially laughed off until he realised that Goldberg was serious. Could this have been the spawning of another future angle?
Let's stop for a while and look at the big picture. Goldberg challenged two of the Federation's superstars which may have been an attempt to build storylines for a future career in the WWF. He also releases the date that his contract ends and publicly states that he has and will consider the WWF when the time comes. Is it just me or does this look like a master plan that no one seems to be seeing? If that's the case then the only true losers will be WCW, the very same company that made him a star.
