02.VIII.2000 Right now I am working on the
signatures I have collected from all the different certificates.
It is defenitely a great help finding the connections.
I now know that the Clervaux Alffs are connected with
the Vianden Alffs, because a
certificate that I consulted on the first of October 1999
mentions an ALFF Josef, born 1751, from the Vianden line and
refers to him as a relative, and this on the wedding certificate
of a Clervaux Alff. Also, a church record for Peter (1720) Alff's
marriage to Kutschpeters Marguerite says he is ex. Vianden and he
was a widower, when marrying Clara Fett on the 07.04.1744. I am
almost certain there were no children from Peter's first
marriage. I still want to work out the exact details
before merging the Clervaux and Vianden lines.
The Vianden tree is not finished, since there are some
connections that haven't been established yet. There are four
different families and even though it is very likely that they
are all related there is no proof. Any information is more than
welcome.
I might get some more information about the Vianden Alffs,
since I have contacted M. Kremer Joseph (former secretary to the
commune of Vianden), who has told me about two books where there
could be some Alffs in it. One by Corneille MEDER and another one
about René Engelmann (professor and writer). Engelmanns mother
was an Eltz and his grandmother was Anna Maria ALFF born 1804 and
married to ELTZ Regnard (René).
A third cousin (Peggy) sent me an email! Some of
it is in French. That's the beauty of the internet. Check it out.
And another relation got in touch, distant though, but still, his
tree (and what a tree - it's a beauty - worth a visit even if you
are not related) is on the net and quite a lot more information.
Visit Roger Zinszner. Another distant
relation this time from the States, check out Don Gentner's site. More info:
researchresults and Alff history.
This line has also a connection with the USA and England: see US-Alffs , US-Alffs II and England-Alffs .
Last but not least, I cannot give a guaranty that the information is 100% accurate. Some of it was on microfilm and some of it was in over 300 year old books. So, if you notice any mistakes do not hesitate and contact me. There will be a lot more information published on this site. What I can say for now, is that there will be a list of surnames of people related to the ALFF family. I will also publish the other branches of my family (HIEFF, JAAS, GEORGES...)There will be more information about the ALFF name, history, stories,(already some one other pages).... It will take time. At a further stage there are plans to add historical pictures, coats of arms and more.
