Ancient Words For Today - 49

Information and advice abound today. There are informational, self-help and how-to books, magazines, periodicals concerning almost any subject. Or you can go to the internet and you will probably locate hundreds or thousands of web sites providing information and advice about any particular topic. Most of the sites are free while some require a paid subscription to view. But you need to be wary as to whether the information received from these sources is accurate and if the advice given provides sound instructions that you can count on and profit from. I have personally seen much inaccurate information and one-sided opinions expressed in such information sources. Some of them even disseminate miss-information, deliberately providing misleading, twisted and false information to promote someone's personal ideas and agenda or to discredit what is true or meant to slander or otherwise damage other persons or organizations.

There are also many "Free" seminars available about wealth creation, retirement planning or other topics that turn out to be self-serving vehicles to promote a company or product or information and advice the sponsors want to sell you. There are also many honest, well-meaning experts who can provide pertinent information and counsel about a variety of matters. But they are not perfect, and sometimes their advice, in retrospect, proves to be misguided or even disastrous, or perhaps there may have been alternatives that would have achieved better results if the course of future events had been known in advance. But only God knows the future; man can only speculate.

On the other hand there is one book, a tried and true book of ancient origin, that provides truth and advice you can count on for living a successful abundant life and ensuring a bright future for eternity! The author has all wisdom and knowledge about every topic that exists, foreknowledge of every future event, is all-powerful and always has the reader's best interests in mind! The book is the Holy Bible and God Himself is the author!

Most people in this country have a copy of the Bible somewhere in their home. But for the majority, it is stored away on a remote shelf or in a closet, rarely or never read, and collecting dust or perhaps is displayed as a conversation piece. But for those people who read the Bible, believe God's wise and perfect counsel contained in it , and incorporate God's directions in their life, the Bible is the greatest of treasures! Consider what some of the Bible writers that penned God's words had to say about it:

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:13-17

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Peter 1:19-21

How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You! Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes! With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. Psalm 119:9-14

I encourage everyone to read the Bible daily, meditate upon God's written word and put it into practice. It is profitable, it will make you wise and you will become better acquainted with God, our creator, and His Son Jesus Christ, who loves us supremely. God's word transforms our mind, changes our lives, and prepares us to meet God, live for Him and spend eternity in his very presence!

Remember - seven days without the Bible makes one weak. So, read the Bible daily and be ye strong and wise!
