It is amazing how we take good health for granted until we or those we love become sick, have a life-threatening accident or other medical calamity. Such occurrences bring into focus just how frail life can be, especially if our life is hanging in the balance and we don't know if we are going to live or be able to make a recovery. It also brings our focus back to God, our creator, in whose hand our very life rests: In the Lord's hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Job 12:10
We are told in the Bible that we should pray for those who are sick and comfort them. It is important to remember that God still heals people today. I have personally been healed of a serious medical problem on more than one occasion when someone prayed for me. I know two people who's loved ones were raised by God after doctors had pronounced them dead. This week my brother was saved from death and healed by God of a life-threatening medical malady through the prayers of our loved ones, for which we are so very thankful. Here are some Bible scriptures about the power of prayer for healing:
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying, I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD. And I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
2 Kings 20:1-6
Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. James 5:13-15

And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. Matthew 8:14-17
One of the names of God used in the Old Testament is Yahweh-Rapha, which is translated "The Lord That Heals You". God does not always chose to heal a person of a medical condition or serious injury in this life, but He often does heal in response to the prayers of His children. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
There is one deadly hereditary disease, overlooked by most, that has infected every person ever born. This universal disease is called SIN, it is 100% fatal, and it separates a person from God. We all have inherited a sinful nature that is in rebellion with God from our corporate parents Adam and Eve, the fore-parents of every person that has ever lived. It is because we have this sinful nature that we by nature commit sin, breaking God's commandments. But God has prepared and offers a total cure for this fatal disease and will give it to anyone who asks - as a free gift. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you are human - you already have this fatal disease! If you haven't received the antidote don't put off receiving Jesus Christ as your savior for another minute - do it right now! And remember to tell others this good news - the gospel of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. His shed blood washes away our sins!!!! God also has promised He will create a new heaven and earth which His people will live in with Him for eternity. There will be no sickness, disease or death there!!
Thank you Lord for healing our diseases and for washing away our sins through faith in Jesus Christ. Thou art our praise!
