Chapter Twelve:
Cathy woke up shortly after Nick shut the door.  She had the same complex as Ali, she woke up when she heard a door opening or closing.  She had slept off the few drinks she did have, and was wondering where everyone went.  After a few seconds of being disoriented, she heard Ali and Kevin from somewhere in the house call out each other's names.  Damnit, they're probably both bombed out of thier minds, Cathy thought as she stood up and stretched.  Oh, yeah, like I wanna hear that when I wake up.  Where the hell did that little snot Nick go?  At that thought, she heard his truck start up, there was no mistaking the sound of that Durango.  He's probably half-bombed too, Cathy thought as she looked out the window.  If I let him go, then I may be making a really big mistake, as much as I'd like to let him go.  Ugh.  What the hell am I thinking? Cathy mused to herself as she ran out the door to get Nick before he killed himself.

"Hey!  Nicky-Boy!  Stop!  Wait for me!" Cathy yelled as Nick was baking out of his driveway.

Now what does she want? Nick thought to himself as he obidently stopped and let Cathy run up to his window.  "Yeah?  What?"

"Where are you going?"

"I don't know.  Somewhere...  to get away from those two," Nick said, pointing to his house.

"Fine.  I'm coming too." Cathy said as she walked in front of the truck to enter the passenger door.

"What?  Why would
you come with me?" Nick asked, plainly confused.

"Because I'm out of my mind.  I have been living with Ali for the past two years, you know."

What I wouldn't give to be in your position, Nick thought as he baked out of the driveway, with Cathy sitting by him.  At that moment, Nick got his brilliant idea.

"Hey, Cath, can I ask you a question?"

"What?" Cathy answered, knowing Nick was driving them in circles, she KNEW she saw that stop sign twenty minutes before.

"Why is it that you hate us?  I mean, you seem to like A.J. enough, but what is it that you have against us?"

Cathy thought for a moment before answering.  "I've known A.J. since I was six, since I knew Ali.  So, it's natural that I would be friends with him, since he and Ali used to be connected at the hip.  And I don't HATE you guys, now that I've gotten to know you all.  Nick, you used to be a self-centered brat, if I remember correctly."

"You're making my self-esteem rise here, you know that?"

"Nick.  You're not a self-centered brat NOW, you changed."

"In what way?"

"Well, you're one hell of a lot more grown up and mature then the last time I saw you.  And, to be frank, you're one hell of a lot better looking then I remember you being."

"Cathy, will you go out with me?"

Cathy was taken aback by this.  She wasn't sure about Rob anymore, he didn't want to see her, she was suspecting, and all of a sudden, Nick asks her to go out with him.  This was odd.  There was something very strange about this, and Cathy knew it.  But she looked over at Nick, and saw the look in his eyes, which she thought was a sincere one, and couldn't help what flew out of her mouth.  "Yes."

Nick smiled at her and leaned over and gave her a quick kiss on the lips.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES! Nick thought as he kissed Cathy.  This plan is SOOOOOO going to work to my advantage.  If I'm dating Cathy, I can be over her house all the time.  And I can get closer to Ali.  And that little business trip her so-called 'Boyfriend' was planning in a week is the perfect time to get closer to her.  He can't take Ali with him, there's no way, he's been planing this Writing Trip for a month now.  Now, if I can only get myself to act well enough.....
