Chapter Two:
"Are you serious?" Libby asked Chris, who was now sitting on the pole he had been leaning on.
"Of course I'm serious. She said she babysat you when she was fourteen and you were eight. What, she didn't babysit you?" Chris asked, hopping down from the pole.
Libby burst out laughing. Trust Jenn to come up with a wild story like that to impress Justin. Espically since he liked older girls... That thought hit her and she stopped laughing. "She is not twenty-three years old, she's seventeen. Her birthday is August thirteenth, 1982. She's only a month and ten days older than me, not six years and ten days. She just graduated with me, second to last to be exact, but I'm sure she lied about that too."
Chris pondered Libby's statements. Jenn hadn't looked twenty-three to him, she looked younger. But see if Justin cared, he followed around anything female with two feet and blonde hair. Chris didn't really know Libby well enough to trust her, but he didn't know Jenn well enough either. Libby cut into his thoughts by saying, "I know you probably don't believe me, but for Justin's sake you really should. It's obvious he likes her, and she's hurt everyone she's been with in the past; I should know, I've been her friend since kindergarden."
"He doesn't need to be hurt now, he just broke up with his last girlfriend because she lied to him. And he really cared about her, from what I saw."
"He's not gonna believe me if I tell him, is he?" she asked, looking up at Chris with pleading eyes.
"Probably not. He really likes her, he made us follow you guys around all day."
Libby nearly had a coronary. Her face showed it. Chris saw it in her eyes and called her on it. "You like him, don't you?"
Libby looked up at Chris, and knowing that she could never get away with it, she replied, "Yeah. I've liked Justin since MMC, you know the story. I saw him on there when I was twelve and never forgot his face. The thing is, Jenn claims she hates him. To me, and the rest of the world, anyway. We had front row to the concert in Philly, the one last week,"
"That's why you look so familiar," Chris threw in.
"Yeah, probably, anyway, every time Justin came by she got this look in her eye. It's obvious she likes him. But that won't stop her from hurting him. Knowing her, she'll probably put the moves on every one of you before we say goodbye."
Chris laughed. "She already tried with me. Didn't work. I think it had something to do with me saying something about Britney Spears being a skank after Lance mentioned she looked like her. But if she's what you say she is, then Justin wouldn't be that blind."
"Love is blind Chris, I realized that a long time ago," Libby said bitterly.
"What are you saying?" Chris asked, while they stepped up in the line.
Libby looked at Chris with a duh look on her face. "I can't compete with her. Half the guys I wanted to go out with went out with her and got their hearts broken. They wouldn't give me the time of day, apparently because I'm not some blond little Britney look-alike. Hell, I've never even had a boyfriend."
"Never?" Chris asked, not believing her.
"Never," she replied with a shrug of her shoulders, looking toward the nearby roller coaster, named Great Bear.
Chris took a step back and examined the girl standing in front of him. Her slightly wavy light brown hair went past her shoulders, her dark brown eyes were full of past heartbreak but at the same time full of mystery, and the way she bit on the left corner of her bottom lip was adorable. The girl had a plainly visible near-perfect body, if not perfect to begin with, she was wearing short khaki cargo shorts from Tommy Hilfiger, a baby blue and white Tommy Girl tank top, and baby blue Adidas sneakers on her feet. She had a nice tan, which accented her dark hair. She was the perfect height, not too short or tall, around five foot five or so. On her right wrist she wore dark blue and baby blue power bracelets, and on her middle finger was a plain silver band ring. On her left wrist was a silver watch with a baby blue wristband, and on her middle finger she wore a silver high school ring with a sapphire stone set in the middle. He noticed on the right side of the ring was music notes and on the other were the words DISTRICT CHORUS on it. She must be a singer, and a damn good one at that to get into District Chorus, he thought before checking her out once again. After looking her over a few more times, he still couldn't find one reason she never had a boyfriend. "Those guys are crazy," he said, shaking his head in disbelief. "If I weren't going on twenty-nine, I'd ask you out in a heartbeat," he said, leaning against a nearby pole. He thought for a second while she smiled an irrestible smile at him. "Then again, if you wouldn't mind putting up with using the handicapped parking spots, a senior discount on dates and my cane, if you're not doing anything tonight..." He trailed off as she looked up at him with a look of amusement plastered on her face.
"The cane I can deal with. The discount's great - I like having more money to spend. But the only handicapped parking space you'll be needing would be in front of an asylum."
"Now that was not funny," Chris said, stepping toward her. "And I take that personally, I am not crazy." He then proceeded to pick her up and spin her around. "Justin's crazy, not me."
"Put me DOWN!!! Do I look like a throw pillow to you? Don't answer that, just put me DOWN!!!"
