Robert Hillyer [Hillyer’s Poems] 1895-? poet and academician (no photo available) Robert Hillyer was born in 1895 and graduated from Harvard in 1917. During the war he was overseas with the French Ambulance in 1917 and later a Lieutenant of Ordinance in the A.E.F. As a versifier, he is a vigorous classicist, and his work shows a marked tendency to draw from Greek and Elizabethan springs of beauty.
In 1934, Hillyer was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in poetry for his Collected Verse. Sources: www.oocities.org/~bblair/bav22_5.htm www.galegroup.com/free_resources/poets/timeline/1925.htm |
