Gheer Rules

Base Cost: 50 pts

This creates a Gheer Statistic of 10.  For all practical purposes, this is a fifth attribute.  Gheer is a pool of points used for plastic transformations.

It can be used to buy physical advantages, mental advantages with an anatomical basis, or to increase any of the three physical attributes at original cost at a 1 gheer to 1 point ratio.  Any expenditure depletes the pool to the same degree --that is --acquiring a 5 point advantage leaves the typical Tymbrimi with a 5 point gheer pool.

A Tymbrimi character may reduce any physical stat or advantage with a physical basis and place the resulting points in their gheer pool.  However, the pool cannot be "overcharged."  Nevertheless, excess points are not lost --they remain "latent" within the advantage.  Note that a Tymbrimi may have many "latent" advantages that can be activated by using gheer points.

A depleted gheer pool can also be recharged with earned experience points, using two xp to buy back one point of gheer.  (This keeps Tymbrimi from using gheer to cheaply buy all attributes up to 12 after character creation.)

A gheer transformation may be gradual or acute (An acute gheer reaction is also known as a "gheer crisis.")  We turn first to gradual gheer transformations.  A gradual transformation occurs at a maximum rate of 1 xp per day.  During this time the Tymbrimi character is at -1 to all health roles and at -1 fatigue due to the metabolic overhead and physiological stress.  If a gradual transformation is interrupted (that is, a day is skipped) then points are reabsorbed from all 'incomplete' transformations at the rate of 1 pt per day.  (Note: a character may put to NO gheer points into a gradual transformation on a given day BUT opt to take the -1 to health roles and fatigue in order to avoid 'reabsorbing' spent points. That is there are circumstances where the transformation neither regresses nor progresses.)

Zero-point transformations

At times --most often when among aliens -- a Tymbrimi may undergo essentially cosmetic gradual gheer transformations; for example, growing hair, fuller lips, et cetera.  For any zero-point transformation, the GM will determine the duration required --two or three days is reasonable for minor changes --such as developing the potential to grow a goatee.  The Tymbrimi character must devote 1 (and only one) gheer point to the transformation and suffers the usual health and fatigue penalties.  When the process is complete, the gheer point is returned to the pool.

Gheer crisis

Any time a Tymbrimi spends more than 1 gheer point in a day (or put to two points if there are two or more gheer 'projects' at once) then he or she has had an acute gheer crisis.  At the end of the period or event (day, battle, march, or whatever --but never more than a day) the Tymbrimi will 'crash' taking double the fatigue points in gheer expended, with any excess taken as damage.  At any time a Tymbrimi may make a will role to convert fp to HT in an effort to stay alert. T he Tymbrimi also takes zero to 2 * gheer used to health.  Any stats or advantages gained are permanent.

Exception

If a Tymbrimi can meet any fraction of the cost to increase a physical attribute, he or she may do so by spending all remaining gheer points.  The character will loose one gheer point "permanently" and suffers a gheer crisis at the end of the event.  The stat will remain elevated for one day.  Excess points MUST be reabsorbed (that is, they cannot be left 'latent'.)  Only points spent in the original crisis, less the one point lost, can be reabsorbed.  (Obviously the character does not get an xp 'profit' on the transaction.)
