ART EXHIBITION
22nd TO 26th MAY 2003
There was the usual Monday evening prior to the exhibition of putting up the boards - many thanks to all who helped. This is the only job I dislike. I usually end up with lumps out of my fingers when the screwdriver slips, and this year was no exception.
On Wednesday, the paintings came in and, by Thursday afternoon, all was ready. The exhibition was opened by Chris the Vicar, the Church was packed and, thankfully, sales were going strong. By the time we finished, we had sold 43 paintings. Not a bad evening’s work.
Friday evening came and went. We looked forward to Saturday, when the May Fayre boosted the amount of people abou,t and sales steadily grew. The Brambles Tea Room was as popular as ever, with an abundance of home-made cakes kindly donated by ladies
highly-skilled in the art of cooking. We would like to thank all those ladies for their cakes; the tea room raised an enormous amount of money which adds to the
success of the event.
Sunday and Monday continued to add to the increasing sales and, when we finally closed on Monday night, we had sold 90 paintings. The six of us, namely Brenda, Nigel, Julie, Peter, Jennifer and myself, met in the evening for a debriefing session, along with a nice meal prepared by her indoors and a couple of bottles of vino-collapso.
There are many people I must mention, because without them the exhibition would not be the success that it is. First of all the five I just mentioned, Brenda, Nigel, Julie, Peter and Jennifer. The flowers, the food and all the preparation prior to the event, the art-work for the catalogue, and the printing; these are the things that really raise the standard of our exhibition above others.
My thanks to those who helped to get the event ready by putting the dreaded boards up, helped on the opening evening, and helped on the Tuesday after, taking those boards down again.
Special thanks go to the various companies who placed adverts in the catalogue. I must mention Roy Tolley Ltd., who support us very well indeed: not only with two adverts but they also exhibit a car at the Church and donate a handsome sum for doing so. If you’re looking to replace your old car, look no further than Roy Tolley (but mention the Art Exhibition as it could do us a bit of good).
The final figure for the exhibition is £2230.04. We look forward to next year, same time, same place, same gang but another year older!
Many thanks.
