Mrs. Stark is a woman almost as tense and dominant as the other Mrs. Stark, her daughter-in-law. She takes control of every aspect in her son Frank's life. In the original film script, she is said to be a "silent enemy of Frank's marriage". She goes against almost everything Jim's mother does, causing a tense relationship between the two. Grandmother's actions also have an immediate impact on Jim's mother's attitude towards her husband and son. The problems and tensions between Grandmother, and Mr. and Mrs. Stark often frustrates poor young Jim.
