WhoIs is a protocol that connectes to a WhoIs server and gets some information about a domain name.You can see information about any domain name as long as it is entered to WhoIs server.
Domain names shold not be confused with web servers. For example when you want to connected to microsoft's web site we type the url www.microsoft.com,
but the domain name for microsoft is microsoft.com. Therefore WhoIs expects input in domain name format
