Not much is known about the big red beast known as Ludo. He seems to have a low level of intelligence, much like a three-year-old. For this, we feel sorry for Ludo and send our hearts out to him, and find ourselves cheering when his talent for calling the rocks saves Sarah from a dip in the Bog, then saves her, Hoggle, and Didymus again during the battle in the Goblin City.
Innocent and naive, Ludo seems to trust anybody who acts kind towards him and willingly accepts anyone who extends their hand in friendship. In this way, he is like an innocent child. What lessons, then, can Ludo teach Sarah and, indeed, everyone? What else but to look past the exterior and judge a person for who they are, not how they look. For Ludo, the old adage "Never judge a book by its cover" rings true, and he seems to take it to heart.
We could all take a lesson from Ludo, this seemingly orphaned monster with little intelligence but a huge heart.
