FTP or File Transfer
Protocol is file transfer and accessing the program that
operates on the top of the TCP/IP suite of protocols. As FTP is
an TCP/IP based protocol, it is mainly concerning with Network.
File Transfer Protocol allows the user to transfer files
or portion of a file from one system to another system under the
command of an FTP client. Whenever the server is willing to
provide its services to users it will listen to a well-known
port and accepts clients requests on that port. A user is
wishing to transfer a file engages in an interactive dialogue
that allows user authentication, file formats control, remote
directory inquiry and file transfer commands.
This allows bi-directional data flow between user and the
remote server. As such the FTP client and the Remote Server run
concurrently processing each command and also managing the
reading and writing of files between the respective computer
file systems.
