Long misunderstood, the Wolf stands as a symbol of committment to home and family, as well as courage, grace and dignity. Endangered now, in some areas, the wolf is being helped by many wonderful people and organizations and is finally recognized as an animal that just wants to be left alone to raise a family and live free.

The Wolf As A Pet?

Wolves and wolf-dog hybrids often seem like romantic pets; there is a mystique and excitement about keeping a wild animal as a companion. They symbolize freedom and the wilderness and maybe sometimes even a status symbol but the needs of the animal MUST come first.

Most predator and wild or exotic animals need to be able to roam over a wild area and socialize with their own species. They need to know how to hunt, breed, and raise their families in their own natural habitat. Wolves can range fifty to four hundred miles in a year.

Wolves cannot be trained in the same manner as a dog. Wolves howl, they like to dig, they will chew up almost anything. They are almost impossible to housebreak and they will mark everything with urine.

Because of the above reasons, I love this magnificent animal from afar and wish him the freedom to live as he was intended... roaming free and not being persecuted.

Three Wolves

Native Americans regard wolves as Pathfinders and all people could benefit from the example of the Wolf. They are fiercely loyal to their mates and have a strong sense of family. They enjoy playing with their young, they are highly organized and yet they remain free spirits. They do not like to fight and, in fact, communicate with posture, a glance or a growl.

Huddled close to their mother for warmth, little wolf pups sleep soundly inside their den. At dawn, they will hear familiar whimpers. The adult wolves have returned from the night's hunt, bringing back food for the family. The pups will rush to greet them. Then the pups will engage in playful frolic and later, when exhausted, follow their mother to a cool shady spot to nurse from her nourishing milk.
