Benji isn't actually a puppy.  He is a year old.  He is a Yorkie!  And boy is he cute!  He was rescued by Grandma and Grandpa Schmitz.

Benji's story is a very happy one.  Benji was living in a not so happy place.  His mommy was young and very busy.  She really didn't know what she was getting into when she got Benji.  Formerly known as "Benson".  He was locked in his crate sometimes in streches of twelve hours at a time while his mom would work, then she would come home and let him out so he could go to the bathroom.  But then, back into the crate he would go as she would leave to go to her friend's house.  Some people just don't realize what the are getting into when they get a pet.  Thank goodness for Benji, his mom knew a very loving family who found this situation very inhumane.  Nicole brought him home to Darryl and Sherri, who by the way, currently have two dogs of their own, and were not really looking for another dog.  Reggie who is a Mountain Dog mix and Doogie who is also a Yorkie.  Grandma and Grandpa Schmitz, who often would dog sit for Doogie, were given Benji as a gift.  This made Grandpa Schmitz very happy.  Grandma really was not all too excited about having a dog of their own.  But Benji won his way into her heart!  Benji is very happy in his new home, and especially very happy with his new Mommy and Daddy!  Since Benji has been adopted, he has been to the vet a few times for several check ups.  He had to have a tooth pulled becuase it was severely infected and have the rest of his teeth cleaned, as they were very dirty.

Benji's story has a happy ending.  But there are a lot of dogs out there that do not have such a story book ending.  I hope that busy people will learn from Benji's story and realize that they are not ready for a dog. 

Here's to all of the warm people who have opened their homes as well as their hearts to give animals in need the home they deserve!

Also, as Bob Barker always says...Have your pet spayed or neutered!
