Protein is needed in the diet for growth and repair. The average Western diet, rich in animal products, contains massive overdoses of protein which is linked to diseases such as cancer. A plant-based diet easily provides the appropriate amount. Most vegetable sources contain incomplete protein: mix pulses and grains to get complete protein. For example, beans on toast has protein from the beans and the wheat in the toast. Or, eating pulses at one meal and rice at another meal the same day will also provide complete protein.
