Vegan Breadmaker Recipes

Breadmaker recipes often include non-vegan ingredients such as skimmed milk powder which are not necessary in breadmaking. It is easy to adapt the recipes so that they are vegan.

I have adapted the recipes for my Kenwood breadmaker by:

I also reduced the amount of sugar and salt in the bread to make it healthier - this didn't harm the flavour or stop the bread rising.

The soya emulsifies the fat and that helps the bread hold its shape when it has risen. Most commercial bread production uses soya rather than milk.

The yeast you use seems to have most effect on the finished product - I use Doves Farm Quick Yeast (available in health food shops in the UK).

This is an example of an adapted recipe, for a 675g loaf of wholemeal bread.
