SOS Opening

At the boarding house, Ryan tried his hardest to fight his attraction for Gillian, as he attempted to look after her.

R: Ok, Princess, it's time for bed. G: Is it, Ryan?

G: Whoo! Oh, thank you for catching me. R: Oh, you're welcome. G: Because -- because if you weren't there, I would have fallen, don't you think? Yeah, I would have fallen. R: Yes, you would have fallen. Time for bed and time to stay there. G: To bed and stay there. R: Yes. G: To bed! Und bleibe da. That's "to bed and stay there" in German. R: Is that right? G: Yeah.

G: Why did I think of that? R: I don't know. G: I know --. Fraulein Kinkle. She had a mole on her nose -- that was my nanny -- so when you looked at her, you went cross-eyed. R: Hmm. G: Mein liebling, ich moechte dir tausend kussen geben, aber moechte mich nicht scheiden lassen. R: Ok, Brunnhilde. Why don't you try and lie down for a minute, Ok? G: No. I can't do that. R: Why can't you do that? G: Because the whole room would just spin. R: Ok, ok. Just stay how you are for a little while, all right? G: Ok. R: Ok. G: Yes, Ryan. R: All right. Stay.

R: Uh -- Oh. I'll just -- I'll just put this here, and you can -- you can put that on when you're ready. G: Are you going away now? R: Well, you're safe now, right? G: I'm as safe as a tick in a vault. R: Ok, well, then, I guess I'll just shove off. G: Ok. You just -- you shove off.

Ryan started to leave when he heard a thud.  Running back into the room, he found that Gillian had fallen off the bed.  Ryan tried to get Gillian back up on the bed, but her balance was off, and they both came tumbling down onto the bed.

G: Oh -- Ryan, everything's turning, and I'm feeling a little -- R: Just open your eyes, open your eyes. That's it. Better? G: It's better. R: Yeah, that's good. Why don't you just lie there with your eyes open, and you're going to fall asleep eventually, ok? G: You're so smart, Ryan. You're so intelligent. You're just so helpful. R: Thank you so much.

R: I'm just going to go. All right? G: Ok. If you must. R: I must. G: Ryan? R: Yes? G: How am I going to -- R: How are you going to what? G: I mean, how am I going to sleep in this thing? I mean, could you sleep in something like this? R: No. No, I definitely could not.

Ryan began to undress Gillian, but soon discovered the temptation was more than he could handle.

R: I'll -- I'll go get Myrtle. G: Myrtle? R: Yeah. Yeah, Myrtle. She's got to be better at -- at this. G: That's best. Because you know Myrtle? She knows this kind of thing. R: Yes. Yes, I'm sure she does. Do you promise me that you're not going to try and do anything while I'm gone? Don't get up -- anything. G: I promise. R: All right.

Ryan went off to find Myrtle, and while he was gone Gillian lamented to herself that if only Ryan could understand German he would know that she had told him she did not want to get a divorce.  After discovering that Myrtle was not home, Ryan mustered up all his resolve and went back into the bedroom. Gillian's cries for help greeted him.

R: Gillian? G: Help! R: Honey, I'm right here. I'm right here. It's ok. Come on, it's all right.

G: Myrtle tried to help me out of this thing, and -- R: No. Myrtle's not even here. G: I dreamt it? R: Yes, you must have dreamt it.

G: Because -- that's good because she had big angel wings. R: Oh, she did? G: Yes. R: Well, that must have been your guardian angel. Your guardian angel must have come and tried to help you out of your clothes. G: My guardian angel? No wonder she screwed up.

R: Well, you're safe now. G: Thanks to you. I'm sorry, Ryan. R: You're sorry? For what? G: For everything.
