ANISEED
COOKIES
(Yield: 6 dozen)
2 cups shortening
1 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
2 teaspoons aniseed
6 cups self-rising flour
½ cup orange juice
Cinnamon sugar
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray large baking sheets with non-stick
vegetable spray.
In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and
fluffy. Beat in egg yolks and aniseed. Add flour alternately
with orange juice, beating well after each addition. Knead the mixture
into a pliable dough.
On a lightly floured board, roll the dough to 1/8-inch thickness.
Cut out with cookie cutters. Place on prepared baking sheets.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from
baking sheets; cool on a wire rack.
