BROWNIE OATMEAL GEMS
(Yield: 3 dozen)

8 1-ounce squares semisweet chocolate
¼ cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup corn syrup
2 eggs, lightly beaten
¼ teaspoon salt
4 cups rolled oats
2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Spray cookies sheets with non-stick vegetable spray.

In a 2-quart saucepan, melt chocolate and butter, stirring constantly, until smooth.  Remove from heat.  Stir in corn syrup, eggs, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, and walnuts.  Stir in chocolate mixture until well blended.  Drop by tablespoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.

Bake for 15 minutes.  Cool for 5 minutes.  Remove from cookie sheets; cool completely on a wire rack.
