GERMAN ANISE COOKIES
(Yield: 6 dozen)

1 cup sugar
¾ cup plus 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons poppy seeds
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon anise extract
4½ cups self-rising flour

Preheat oven to 325°F.  Spray baking sheets with non-stick vegetable spray.

In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil, eggs, water, poppy seeds, and extracts; beat until thoroughly combined.  Stir in flour, kneading until dough is no longer sticky.  Divide the dough into 5 equal pieces; shape into strips 2x14-inches.  Cut into 1-inch diagonal bars.  Place on prepared baking sheets.

Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove from baking sheets; cool on a wire rack.
