Amish Haiku

By David "Fuzzy" Gregory

The cows never stop.
Milk or manure or beef,
They always provide.

I saw a camera.
It flashed me with a bright light,
It's stolen my soul.

I chopped down a tree,
Then made a rocking chair.
No more leaves to rake.

Churn, churn the butter,
Up and down and up and down.
Grab the rod and churn.

Feed the chickens corn.
They can eat with their peckers.
Barnyard full of cocks.

Electricity?
Wind, sun, horse and fire are good,
We use clean power.

Race the big fast train,
My swift buggy can make it...
Horsey sauce for miles.

Look in the closet,
Oh, what shall I wear today?
Black and white again.

Comb the old gray beard.
I think I'll shave tomorrow.
...If I see pigs fly.

Quilting bee today,
Sew and sew the patchwork quilt.
Tourists buy them all.

Go to the outhouse.
Use a Shakespeare play to wipe,
Can't read anyway.

Swing the scythe around.
Reaping corn and wheat and oats.
Never use on Mom.

Fine my English is.
Throw me down the stairs my shoes.
Time to pigs the feed.

Raise a brand new barn.
Grab the beam and thrust it high.
Monument for all.

Amish life for me;
Electricity no more.
I love this land so.

Camera flash! Oh!
Those silly English people
With noisy autos

He made fun of us
That Weird Al of Yankovic
With electric things

Helpeth! Save our souls!
Noisy automobile horns
Will killeth our ears
