| Forever~ 1 Brian say quietly on the hill as he watched the clouds roll by. He looked at the wildflowers laying beside him and felt a tear roll down his cheek. He quickly wiped it away and stood up, waiting to gather enough courage to go see her grave. When he finally had his wit about him, he picked up the flowers and began to walk to the other side of the hill. On the other side was a lone tombstone. Brian looked at the inscrpition for the hundredth time. Heather Marie Cooper Oct. 14, 1978- Nov. 22, 1999 An Angel has returned to God Brian cried quietly. She had died so young, yet she had known that she would. Why had he let himself fall in love with her? They both knew that they had no future together, yet he couldn't leave her; he couldn't make himself give up the foolish dream that they would find a cure for her cancer and she would live. His hope had left when she did, and now all he hasd was an emptiness inside. He recalled the last conversation they had ever had. "I love you," he had whispered to her as he held her hand in the hospital room. "yes," she returned weakly. "But you and I aren't meant to be and you know it. You have a soulmate out there, and I'll be watching from Heaven to make sure that you find each other." "You can't leave me, Heather, you can't," he had cried softly. "I have to. I release you from any promise you've made to me, Brian. All except one; you must promise not to give up on love. Your soul mate is out there and she will make you happier than you can imagine. Don't miss her because you are crying for me." Not until she was gone did he realize the courage it must have taken for her to utter those words. "'For everything there is a season; a time to live, a time to die, a time to love, and a time to let go'," she had quoted."I have had my season to live and love. Now is my season to die, not yours. You have to promise me that you'll go on living and loving, Brian. Promise me." "I promise," he had whispered as he kissed her for the last time. She had died that same night. Sitting on the hillside beside her grave as the sun began to rise, Brian thought of every good time they had had together. He began kicking himself. "Why did I promise her that I would move on?" he asked himself aloud. "Because you knew that she wasn't your soulmate." Brian heard a voice from behind him and turned around to see his cousin Kevin. |
