Forever~ Chapter  10

Jessica stared at Brian for several minutes, the air filled with a horrible silence. Finally, he caught his breath.

"Nothing," he said as he began to stand up. "I just got a little dizzy. I'm fine," he lied. He looked into her eyes until she seemed to believe him. He hated to lie to her, but he couldn't worry her with what he thought might be happening; not until he knew for sure would he tell her his condition.

"All right," she said as she helped him back inside. "That's enough basketball for today. Besides, it's almost time for your meeting. Who are you meeting anyway?"

"Can't I go with you?" Jessica asked innocently. For a brief moment, he thought about bringing her along, but he dismissed the idea as quickly as it came to him. Their relationship wasn't ready to face this; this was something he would have to face alone.

"He's an old family friend," Brian said as he told the partial truth. Actually, his heart specialist from Kentucky had relocated to Orlando and it was he whom Brian was meeting. Unfortunately, this wasn't a friendly visit; it was all business.

"I'd love for you to come, honey," he lied. "But aren't you and Nick going to go pick out some clothes for our photo shoot?"

"Yeah, I guess you're right," she said with a downcast face. "All right. I"m gonna go jump on Nick's bed and wake him up. Then he and I will get ready and go."

"Okay, just keep Nicky out of trouble today." Jessica smiled at Brian's protective tone.

"I'll try my best," she said with a grin. "You know he's a handful."

"Yeah, I know," Brian teasingly agreed. "You'll probably be in the shower when I leave so I'll just tell you bye now."

"Okay," Jessica said, pretending to be annoyed. "If you have to." He leaned down and kissed her warmly.

"You'll miss me when I'm gone." The tone in his voice caused Jessica to search his eyes looking to see if his words had a double meaning. She found nothing, yet felt compelled to kiss him like she never had before. When she pressed her lips to his, his eyes opened wide with amazement. Just as she was getting him to relax, Nick came down the stairs and cleared his throat loudly. Brian and Jessica instantly ceased the kissing and turned to Nick, their faces red with embarrassment. Nick smiled slyly at them.

"You didn't have to stop," he said. "I just wanted to ask if we were still going to look at those clothes today. We?ve got an appointment with the designer at 11:00."

Brian and Jessica looked at their watches and then at each other. "Oh, man! I don't even have time to take a shower. I?ve got some clothes in my car; I guess I'll just change there. Bye, Nicky; bye, Jess," Brian said as he waved to Nick, kissed Jessica, and ran out the door. Nick and Jessica looked at each other.

"Just let me run upstairs and change and then I'll be ready," she told Nick as she ran up the stairs. A few minutes later they were cruising down the road in Nick's black Mustang. They sat in silence, listening to the radio.

"I wanna love you forever." The words penetrated Jessica's thoughts and she suddenly realized that she was listening to her own song. She quickly turned the radio off. Nick looked at her in surprise.
