Forever~ Chapter 11 "Why'd you do that?" Nick asked. "I like to hear you sing." "Well, I hate to hear myself and besides, I need to talk to you about Brian," Jessica replied matter-of-factly. "If it's relationship problems then I'm staying out of it," Nick said quickly. "It's not," she assured him. "But I'm worried about him. He got really dizzy this morning and I thought he was gonna pass out." "That's strange," he agreed. "But I know what you mean. He hasn't had much energy for quite a while now. I blamed it on his mourning for Heather, but now that I think about it..." he trailed off. "He doesn't strike me as a sickly person," Jessica said, more to herself than to Nick. "He's not," he told her. "Brian's one of the healthiest people I know. Except for his surgery, he's never really been sick a day in his life." His words took her off guard and she turned her face towards him. "What surgery?" she asked. Nick gave her a shocked look. "You mean you don't know?" "No, tell me," she demanded. "Maybe I should wait for Brian to tell you. Maybe he's waiting for the right time-" "Nickolas Gene Carter!" she interrupted. "Pull this car over right now and tell me what's going on! I'm his girlfriend and I have every right to know!" "All right, I'll tell you, but I'm not gonna pull over cause if I do, we'll be late. Man, Frick may kill me for telling you this," he worried. "I'll handle him," Jessica assured him. "Just tell me what happened." "Okay, here is goes. Brian has had a heart conditon since he was born; he had a hole in his heart. He elected to have surgery 2 years ago to fix the hole. To make matters worse, this was before he met Heather, his girlfriend Erica broke up with him just before the surgery. It took him a while to recover from everything, including the breakup, but he got back to normal, until recently. But these problems may not have anything to do with his heart." Nick shrugged as he kept his eyes on the road. "Why wouldn't he tell me this?" Jessica asked in a state of shock. "I thought he trusted me." "He does sweet heart, he does. He just probably thought that you already knew. The whole thing's not exactly a big secret, It's common knowledge among our fans." Nick tried to comfort her. "But I'm not a fan; I'm his girlfriend, or I'm trying to be." "You have to understand that that entire event in Bri's life was very painful and it hurts him to talk about it even now. He never even talks about it with me. It's one of those times in his life that I'm sure he wishes that he could forget about." Nick didn't know how right he was, and, as he was speaking, Brian was living another of those moments. "Brian," the doctor began grimly. Brian drew in a sharp breath and braced him self for the next words that were to fall from the doctor's lips. "Your suspicions were correct.
