Forever~ Chapter 7

Brian looked at her closely, weighing the decision in his mind. If he told her about Heather then she would know more about him than he wanted anyone to know. On the other hand, she was his soulmate. One last look into her shining green eyes and his decision was made.

"She looked a lot like you," he began softly. "Absolutely gorgeous. She was an angel; everyone loved her for a different reason. I think I loved her because she was so unselfish and wiling to give up all she had for me. She knew that she I and weren't meant to be together, and she told me to move on and find my soulmate."

"She sounds wonderful, Brian. Some poor girl is gonna have a hard time measuring up to her." Jessica had rolled over now and her face was just inches from his. "But you're gonna make some girl so incredibly happy if she'll just realize that you're worth everything that she'll have to go through." Jessica slowly leaned down and kissed him. He didn't resist at first, but then all the memories of Heather came rushing back to him and he could hear Nick saying 'don't hurt her.' Brian slowly pushed her away.

"Jess, I can't do this," he said as tears formed in his eyes.

"I understand." she whispered as she wiped tears from his eyes and her own. So what do we do now?"

"Let's just go home," he whispered. They walked slowly back to the car and rode home in silence. In fact, they didn't speak for the rest of the day. At dinner their silence was so obvious that all the guys noticed it.

"You guys okay?" Howie asked as they all sat around the table.

"Fine," Jessica and Brian answered in unison. Jessica looked at him carefully.

"Uh-oh," Kevin whispered.

"C'mon, Jess," Nick said as he took her hand. "I need to talk to you about something. Let's just take our dinner in the other room and eat while we talk."

"Okay," she said reluctantly. She hated to Brian's side, but she also realized that he needed to talk to someone besides her about what had happened.

Brian watched as she got up and slowly left the room with Nick. He started to go after her, but then what would he say? How he wanted to say 'I love you' to her, but would she even believe him after what had happened today? And how could he do that to Heather?

"Frick, I need to talk to you, buddy," AJ said interrupting BRian's thoughts. AJ directed his friend to the back porch and closed the door.

"Whats on you mind, Bone?" Brian played innocent.

"You... and Jessica," AJ began.

"Didin't Nick tell you what I told him? There's nothing going on. I have nothing else to say," Brian replied.

"But I do," AJ countered. "Brian, you're like a brother to me, but I'm not gonna sugar coat this like Nick did." 'Oh yeah,' Brian thought sarcastically. 'Nick really sugar coated it.'

"Heather has been gone for a year now and it's time for you to move on," AJ continued. "Quit being scared that you'll love Jess more than you loved Heather because you know you're supposed to, and Heather knew it, too. You're so lucky and you don't even know it. When most people lose someone they love, they have to go through life wondering if what they're doing would have made that person happy. You know what Heather wanted for you; she wanted you to find your soulmate. I think we both know that you've found her, but if you don't do something you may lose her."

"You're right, AJ," Brian whispered. "I've been an idiot about this." Brian immediately began walking toward the house.

"Where're you going, Frick?" AJ called.

"To fix my mistakes so I don't lose the woman I love again. Thanks, Bone, for talking some since into me," Brian said with a grin.

"Anytime, man," AJ said with a laugh. "Just make sure I'm invited to the wedding, okay?"

"Sure thing," Brian said as he turned and went inside.

~Meanwhile~

"I can't help it, Nick," Jessica was saying. "I love him so much and I've only known him for what, 3 days? I mean, this is insane. I can't believe that I let myself fall in love with him. This is unlike anything I've ever done." Nick laughed and Jessica gave him a puzzled look. "What are you laughing at?"

"You, I've never seen anyone this much in love." He smiled at her.

"Do you think he loves me loves me, Nicky?" she asked earnestly. "I mean you know him better than anybody."

"I know he loves you, Jess. I can see it in his eyes when he looks at you. It's just gonna take him some time to tell you; he's been through a lot."

"Jess," said a familiar voice. She turned to see Brian's handsome face in the doorway. "Can I talk to you?"
