Here is a short description of the outings we propose during your stay here with us:
A- Walk the Bouctouche Dune
(Maximum 12 participants)
Join the renowned naturalist, Denis Doucet, on a walk of the 12km Bouctouche
Dune in it's entirety (24km return). You will certainly see many shorebirds and
hopefully spot a few rarely seen species of birds, plants and insects. If they
are present, Denis will find them and show them to you. Be sure to bring a good
pair of walking shoes, plenty of sun-block and water.
B- Voyageur Canoe in
Kouchibouguac
(Maximum 16 participants) (Weather permitting)
Climb
aboard the Voyageur canoe (rabaska) with Mike LeBlanc and Inuk Simard to
discover some of Kouchibouguac’s less frequented areas; like one of the
largest tern colonies in North America, learn of the Miq’maq culture, and
hopefully see some seals bobbing around.(Departure is at 8:30 AM from the Cap de
St-Louis wharf)
C- Bouctouche Nature Trails with
Stuart Tingley
As many of you already know, Stuart is one of the area's most knowledgeable and
enthusiastic birders and entomologist. Join him on a walk in the Acadian Forest
where nature’s treasures can be found. Well maintained nature trails are sure
to provide you with excellent observations.
D- Pays de la Sagouine
Jim Edsall, entomologist and birder, will guide a walk along a very serene and
charming wooded trail which begins from the parking lot of the Pays de la
Sagouine. The trail also follows the Bouctouche River. Jim will certainly
delight in sharing his vast knowledge of nature.
This is a tour of Bouctouche Bay's oyster farms by kayak. The guides from Kayabécano
will take you on a 2 hour tour on their kayaks of the Bouctouche Bay's oyster
beds. All you need to take with you is appropriate clothing; life jackets will
be provided. The price is $20.00 per person.
F- Irving
Eco-Centre
Discover the beautiful Bouctouche dune and the Irving Eco-Centre. The Centre’s
interpreters are sure to inform you about the dune’s ecology and the various
ecosystems found there. Beaches, salt marshes and wooded trails will certainly
reveal their treasures of birds and plants.
G- The Flora of Kent County
Gart Bishop, an area authority on plant life, will amaze you with his knowledge
of plants and wildflowers. With any luck he will succeed in finding that rare
gem you have always wanted to observe.
I- Kouchibouguac National Park
Mike LeBlanc,
park interpreter, will introduce you to our "other" national park,
which is the often undiscovered jewel: Kouchibouguac.
J- Spring Mushrooms
Our very own "Mushroom King", Michel Thériault, will without a doubt
teach you things you didn't know about the various fungi species found in our
forest.
L- Tour of Kent County's Birding
Hot Spots.
You'll find Mike LeBlanc's enthusiasm to be contagious when it comes to
birds and nature in general. Spend the morning following Mike around Kent
County's hot spots. Lagoons, trails, marshes, there's no place Mike won't go in
order to maximize your chances to locate our avian friends.
N- Bouctouche Plantation
This is Bouctouche's best kept secret. This arboretum contains a large
collection of Canadian as well as exotic trees. This was made possible with the
dedication and commitment of the Irving family.
O- The Olivier Soapery
The Olivier Soapery, Canada 's Economuseum, is a living museum of the
traditional craft of soap-making in the early 19th century. The Olivier Soapery
offers guided tours on the history, the art and the evolution of skin care along
with live demonstrations of soap crafting. There are nature
trails on the propriety.
P- Kouchibouguac's Bogs
Follow Sabine Dietz in the discovery of the unique aquatic landscape
which is the peat bog. Learn about this fascinating ecosystem in a beautiful
setting which is Kouchibouguac National Park.
