The "Spun" Neck
(revised: 15 August 1998)
The first "spun" neck cans date back to the mid-late '80s. Since then, they have gradually
substituted the classic two-piece shape, which originally had a small crimp below the top.
During these last years, can necks have become more and more narrow; and, as the width of the
neck has reduced, the diameter of the can's top has decreased proportionally.
The following pictures show how through the years the tops have shrinked from the original 6.5 cm. to the
present 5.3 cm.
