What is Sailor Moon?

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon is a cool shoujo Anime about sailor-suited soldiers who fight for love and justice. Usagi Tsukino, Sailor Moon, is the main character and her story is, mostly, about her love for Mamoru Chiba, who has a secret identity too: Tuxedo Kamen/Masked and used to be her lover in their past life.

This anime was based in the Manga story by the mangaka Naoko Takeuchi. There are plenty of differences between the manga and the anime but the storyline is mostly the same. The movies are an exception, using most of the time non-manga characters. The Sailormoon S Movie thought, is based in an short story of the manga: Princess Kaguya's Lover. And in the Anime, the villians of the first arch of Sailormoon R are seen only in the Anime. Some enemies of the Manga don't show up in the Anime, either.

As the series go on, more Senshi appear: Ami Mizuno, a bookish girl who is Sailor Mercury; Shinto Priestess Rei Hino known as Sailor Mars; Codename Sailor V, also called Sailor Venus (Minako Aino); the tall and strong Mako Kino becomes Sailor Jupiter; Usagi and Mamoru's future daughter, Chibi-Usa transforms into Sailor Chibi-Moon; the car racer Haruka Tenou and the violinist Michiru Kaiou are the Outer Sailor Senshi:Uranus and Neptune respectively; Hotaru Tomoe turns into the Senshi of destruction, Sailor Saturn, and at last comes the Time Guardian Sailor Pluto (Setsuna Meiou).

In SailorStars (the fifth season) lot of new Sailor Senshi appear but aren't necesarily good. The three Sailor Starlights and Sailor Galaxia are the ones with most screentime. Cats are also important part of the storyline, being the counselours of the Senshi.

According Sailor Moon's Universe, in the Past:  Sailormoon was Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom, the Silver Millennium. Thi prosperous Kingdom was destroyed by Queen Beryl (of Earth) and everyone died, including Princess Serenity, her lover Prince Endymion of Earth, and the 4 guardian Sailor Senshi. Queen Serenity sealed Beryl and sent everyone to be reincarnated in Earth, but she died in the process.

Following what is said in the series, in the Future: The Earth was Crystallized (ha, I guess that word doesn't exit, but I like it and I use it in my fanfic), but in the 30th Century Neo-Queen Serenity (Sailor Moon) returned life to the planet and started her reign at King Endymion's side. The new name their city had was Crystal Tokyo. They had a daughter, Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity, who later becomes the New Moon Soldier, Sailor Chibi-Moon.

A new version Sailormoon appeared for it's Tenth Anniversary. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon was a live-action series that lasted only one season. The Story has elements of both the Anime and Manga 1st season.
