Dorm Life at KU: The First Year

Here are a few "highlights" of dorm life during my freshman year.  It's really not all that exciting but hey, it takes up space.  This year I am in a suite in Templin Hall with Mike, thank God.

McCollum

Lovely McCollum Hall, where I hung my hat my freshman year.  It is the largest of KU's dorms, with 10 floors each having 3 wings.  I was on the 8th floor, which is reserved for Honors students.  McCollum is lucky enough to have ten times more fire alarms than any other hall, and I was  actually in my first dorm fire at 3:45 AM January 18, 2000, the first day of classes.  Fortunately for me it was on 4 South and I'm on 8 East so I escaped smoke damage.

Our wonderful room.  I don't claim anything on the right side of it.  Notice any differences?  And don't you just love my holiday decorations?  Woulda been nice if my roommate would've made a comment about them, either "nice lights" or "take those crappy things down" but of course that would have required him to talk...

This is what I had to stare at every day.  No, I don't know why my roommate liked John Travolta or Saturday Night Fever; again, asking him to explain would require him to speak.  Fortunately Rachel gave me an awesome Lord of the Rings poster for Christmas that I countered him with.  Above right is the man, my roommate, himself.  I'll be nice and not disclose his name; anyone seeing this that cares knows it anyway.  Below is the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center, the church where I sing and sometimes play my clarinet in the choir every week.  In May 2000 I  traveled with the choir to Europe as part of a Jubilee 2000 pilgrimage.
