Pitch Tourney 2001 |
My fourth annual pitch tournament was exciting as usual. Reigning co-champion Diana was unable to attend and so a rookie LeeAnne stepped in to help Julie defend the title. Tension mounted as I went from wondering if Geoff was going to find a partner to wondering if he was ever going to show up. Sarah and I were determined to become the first ever two time pitch tourney champs. Oh and Kylene and Rachel also returned for comic relief. Hehe just kidding. Here's how it all went down. |
Left: As I mentioned Geoff decided to sleep in late. At least he got there before I burned the burgers. As punishment I had Sarah take his picture when he finally decided to grace us with his presence. Below: Rachel and Kylene showing off their matching shirts. |
Below left: And here they are, for the second year in a row (making them the first ever two-time last place finishers, come to think of it), your losers, with a 1-3 record. But we love them anyway. I'm sure they would like me to mention that in the consolation round they successfully shot the moon. Their prizes were various canned meat products, including pickled pigs' feet which Rachel (holding them) refused to take home, leaving me to get rid of them somehow. Below right: LeeAnne and Julie, with a 2-2 record and 3rd place finish, proudly show off their certificates. |
As you can see I moved the tournament to our "upgraded" backyard this year. I thought a pitch tourney under the stars was a great idea but I failed to account for the very muggy weather that left us all soaked with sweat at the end of the night. Oh well. Below left: Rachel and Kylene challenge Sarah and me (behind Kylene's wonderful smile). The match didn't go so well for us until a truly telephatic play involving an 8 and a 3. Below right: Geoff and Cassie square off against LeeAnne and Julie at the good table. Among four excellent teams, it came down to us vs. Geoff and Cassie for first and LeeAnne and Julie vs. Ky and Rach to avoid getting the booby prize, (which I picked out myself this year). |
Below left: Well I almost hated to do it to Geoff and Cassie (not really) but after a very hard fought championship round, including a final hand miracle 10-point sweep, Sarah and I emerged victorious, with an overall 3-1 record. Our prizes were 6" clip fans, on display in the picture. Below right: For never having played as partners before, Geoff and Cassie (2-2) put together a tremendous effort and came very close to winning. Here they are with their lovely certificates. |
