St. Peter's Square and the Vatican

Taken from our place amidst 80,000 pilgrims, these pictures should give you an idea of the mass of humanity gathered in St. Peter's Square for John Paul II's audience.

I enlarged and cropped this picture (left), so we weren't quite this close to John Paul II, but well, there he is (in the white).  Behind him is St. Peter's Basilica.  Actually, we were fairly close to him, at least in the front section of the square.  Below left is a line of couples to be married by the Holy Father after the audience.  Directly below is some of the interior of St. Peter's.
