FOR THE PHONE

  • If you have a speech impairment which causes you to be misunderstood often consider using a telecommunications device for the deaf. These devices are more commonly known as TDDs.

GENERAL COMMUNICATION
  • Try to use e-mail as much as possible. You can now contact most companies via e-mail. Many offer customer support via e-mail or their web site.

SHOPPING AND IN PUBLIC
  • If you were planning on ordering something from a catalog then see if the catalog has online ordering.
  • For shopping the old-fashioned way or for in public in general consider using a portable speech device, which makes communication easier.
  • Have someone you know go with you on errands and outings.
  • Go out with a group of people that you know and that know you.
