Disillusionment *

Little girl grows up
with expectations
Little princess, baby doll
mommy's your all in all

"There's this thing with my body
It needs you and maybe you need me
Can you be my daddy
or can we just be?"

Baby's cold out here
The world's all dark
How come mommy never told me
Prince Charming sometimes farts?

Sweet child ain't so nice no more
Doesn't even remember how to speak
She cries when the moon's out
Then turns around and wipes it out

"I think someone was supposed to come see me
Maybe they missed the first turn
Could be that white steed
Can't even see"

"My man wears black now
But at least he loves me
I can't tell if he's leaving
While he's in me"

Mommy's hair blows in the wind
When she drives on by
She thinks she's found the answer
in another nice guy

Baby girl can't you see
Ooops, dropped something--
thru my fingers, all that time,
Just let it be.

They used to say she was mean
But it's too easy to use what you need
"There's nothing there to hold me up
I think I need a drink!"

Sweet girl has some friends
They had mothers too
They sit around and laugh it up
Really they're just waiting

"I think I'd like to live or die
No you don't understand
I need a man to save me
I want that sweet by and by."

Turns out Mom was right
She figured it out too late
All we want is convenience
And maybe a hot date

Sweetheart you're all bothered
You haven't got a clue
Come sit on my lap
Let me help you

"I think there was an offer of candy
I know a carrot just touched my nose"
Mama's girl has a baby
She's old enough to hold her own

Mama don't need Papa
The world's a lonely place
But I'll tell my baby girl
of knights and sweet things.

Her mother had the same regrets
There isn't time to figure things out
Tears are mostly hidden
The world is full of doubts.
