How to Steal a Million
American millionaires must be all quite mad. Perhaps it's something they put
in the ink when they print the money.
There's the bathroom, take off your clothes.
Are we planning the same sort of crime?
Well, it was pitch dark and there he was. Tall, blue eyes, slim, quite good-
looking... in a brutal, mean way, Papa. A terrible man!
....This tall, good-looking ruffian with blue eyes, he didn't, er, molest you
in any way, did he? Well, did he?
Not much.
Well you don't think I'd steal something that didn't belong to me, do you?
For a burglar you're not very brave, are you?
I'm a society burglar; I
don't expect people to rush about shooting me.
The trouble with you is you're too honest. Oh, I didn't say that to offend you,
dear!
My all time favorite movie. So what if it's an oldie. Old movies were my first
love. First off, I love Audrey Hepburn. She plays her patented eccentric,
complex, fun, self-possessed character absolutely flawlessly in this movie. I
totally don't understand why this movie has not received more attention, but oh
well, I love having my own discoveries. She's in this with Peter O'Toole,
believe it or not. It's the only movie I like him in, but what can I say, when
I like him I like him a LOT (when I don't like him I hate him, but that's
another story!). He's perfect in this movie as well, and, I gotta say, very
cute. The conversation is witty, the details are superb (I'm still catching
some new ones every time I watch it, which, as we all know, is the mark of a
master), and it's absolutely hilarious. Don't get me wrong, there's oodles of
plot, but it is a romantic comedy.
As for the plot itself of course, it's a little hard to explain. Audrey's
father (another amazing character) is an art forger. Audrey has to save him
from being exposed and she enlists the help of the, ahem, burglar she found
(and shot...but he was alright) one night in her home. Anyway, I recommend the
movie to anybody (despite wanting to keep the joy to myself), and if you don't
like it, I don't want to hear about it!
Moulin Rouge (2001)
I can't believe it. I'm in love with a talented, rich, handsome duke.
Duke?
Not that the title's important, of course!
I'm not a duke.
Not a duke?
I'm a writer.
A writer?!
This is an amazing movie. Truly amazing, the kind of movie you don't see every year. I can't really describe it, but it's romantic, funny, heartbreaking, and the perfect modern musical. Nicole and Ewan are great in it. I've been a fan of Ewan's acting for a long time, and I've been interested in Nicole for a long time, as well, although she hasn't been in a lot of movies I've liked. And..they can sing! Just see it. Of course, there's a ton of sexual innuendo...so watch out, but it's so worth seeing, really.
Rated: PG-13; Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor
Only You
I did it because I love you!
Ha! What kind of an excuse is that?
This movie is incredibly romantic. I mean, melt into a puddle and wish for love
like that romantic. But yet not annoyingly romantic. It's funny and original
and sweet and realistic...mostly. I love the parts where he knows her so well
(although, after only a couple days, I don't know HOW, but hey we can overlook
that...) that he knows exactly what she would be wearing and when. Just watch
it, you'll understand. Oh yah...don't go by the beginning, it's just setting up
the story!
Rated: PG-13; Robert Downey Jr, Marisa Tomei, Billy Zane
Fight Club
We just had a near-life experience!
This is your life and it's ending one minute at a time.
This is such a well done movie, it'll honestly blow your mind. Or, you'll be so horrified by the concept and the violence that you'll be scarred for life and have to start seeing a psychiatrist who won't be able to help you because their god is prozac and then you'll wonder if some of the stuff they say in this anti-societal movie is true and then...
Rated: R; Brad Pitt, Edward Norton
And other movies I tend to be possessive of:
First Knight
("Self-sacrifice is very easy. It's having to sacrifice someone you love that
puts your convictions to the test.")
10 Things I Hate About You
(Love Julia Stiles, love Heath Ledger, love the story. Nuff said.)
Fools Rush In
(This is just one of the sweetest movies ever, okay. And I love Matthew Perry in it like I never thought I could.)
Bridget Jones's Diary
(Fun, funny. Read the book -and sequel.)
Mission: Impossible 2
(John Woo, gotta love him.)
Charlie's Angels
Bandits
(I still can't believe how fun this movie is.)
Mulan
(Shut up.)
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
(Rediscovered my childhood love.)
And now some movies I highly recommend:
While You Were Sleeping
("You don't have to walk me home."
"You block the wind.")
Six Days, Seven Nights
("Tourists...They come here looking for the magic, hoping to find romance, when
they can't find it anywhere else."
"Maybe they will."
"It's an island, babe! If you didn't bring it here, you won't find it here!"
Gosh I love Harrison Ford.)
Ever After
(Ugh, gosh, I dunno, I'm required to love this one as a girl.)
A Knight's Tale
Angel Eyes
(I am in awe of the very basic character-to-character interaction in this movie.)
Kissing Jessica Stein
(A slightly more honest look at so-called lesbianism.)
