"Dark Wash Jeans"

Step One: Pick out a palatte of what colors you want for your jeans. The palette I chose above is numbered.
I chose a lighter palette because Im going to be using a filter like muliply during this
tutorial, and I dont want my jeans too dark. I chose this base and palette below:

Step Two: Make the outline of your jeans. I like my jeans to cover most of the foot and be
longer than most. After that, fill your jens in the the number 3 color:

Step Three: Now that you've filled in your jeans, there is several ways the do this. Make a new layer named shading.
You can use the burn tool, set on 1 to make your creases, or as I am going to do, you can use your number 1
color to make your creases with the brush tool. You want to make your creases around the knees,
um, crotch area, and the end of the jeans for the creases when they hit your foot and bunch up around your
ankles: (image is enlarged so may be blurred a bit)

Step Four: Now for the light creases. Use number 4/5, and on a new layer, start making light
creases in between the dark ones. Or you can use your dodge tool on 1 to make the creases as well:

Step Five: Now comes the actual shading. First go to your jeans layer, and select outside of the layer. Go to the shading layer
with the outside of the jeans still selected and hit delete. This should rid of any excess shading not on the jeans.
Merge the shading and jeans layer, and with your burn tool on size 5/9/13, make your darker shadows. Try to imagine a sun shing on your
doll and where the light would hit, creating shawdows in those spots. I placed my "sun" on the top left corner. Making the shadows
on the shadows on the left side not as dark and not as much, while on the right they are darker.

Step Six: The lighter shadows come next. With your dodge tool, on about 5 or 9, make some lighter spots. Again, imagine you "sun" to guide you.

Step Seven: We could stop there, but our jeans are light, and this tut is called "Dark Wash Jeans". So were are going to select our jeans, the jeans not the outside
and copy them. Then on a new layer, paste the new jeans right on top of the old ones. Now just play with the tones you like. Multiply, Color Burn and Linear Burn are good ones I like.
You might have to play with the opacity to. I finally settled on Multiply with 100% opacity. But this isnt our final step.

Step Eight: Now all im going to do is put some noise on my jeans to make them look less flat and smooth kinda. I used
noise>add noise>uniform and monochromatic on 9. I know its alot, but the jeans are soo dark I wanted to actually see the noise.

Well there you have it, a pair of dark wash jeans to go with your doll. The doll made for this tut is below, along with another doll
I used this technique on.
