Chapter 9 – Buried Feelings Codie looked out the window of the small café. It was raining. Lightning flashed across the sky. How did Tama manage to convince her to meet with Aya? It had been two years since she’d seen him. She was afraid of what he would say. Would he tell her that he left because he didn’t want to be near her? Maybe he had met someone knew…and ran off with her. She began to get a terrible feeling inside, like someone had stuck the hand inside of her, and were pulling on her heart. “Hello Codie, it’s been a while.” See shot her gaze up to the person who had come to stand beside her. She turned away. “Hai, I wonder why…” she trailed off. What was she supposed to say? “I deserve that…I can’t believe it’s been two long years,” he started up the conversation while sitting across from her. “How have you been? You still look as good as I remember…” Codie felt her face turn red. “I…didn’t come here for compliments…I came here to talk to you about the new enemies. What happened before…well it’s in the past. We shouldn’t dwell on it…” “So you don’t want to know why I left?” Codie shot an angered look at him. “Baka…I don’t care!” She turned her face away. She didn’t want him to see her face as the tears began to sting her eyes. “I…I was glad you left.” Aya’s eyes shot open, but then softened. “Is that true, Codie-chan? I missed you…a lot…I…” Codie cut him off, standing quickly. “Enough…” tears had begun to stream down her cheeks, and Aya could now see them. “Codie-chan…” “I, I promised myself I wouldn’t do this. I would come here, and forget that you left me alone two years ago. I wouldn’t cry, I would just forget that you ever promised to stay by my side! I tried to tell myself that you were gone…but my heart just wouldn’t listen…” She couldn’t take any more, and ran out of the café. Leaving a stunned Aya. Codie ran threw the streets, it had only taken moments to become soaking wet. “Kuso,” she cursed, shivering from the cold. She took a deep breath. She really hadn’t expected things to go that way. She should never have met up with him. How could they simply talk about what was going on in the present, when they couldn’t even talk about what had happened in the past? All of a sudden, she felt a sharp pain on her cheek. She put her hand to it, and felt blood. “What the…?” Not long after, she felt two more, one on her left hand, and one on her right arm. “Damn it! What’s going on?!” “Hahaha! Pathetic human, we’re going to take away your energy!!” Codie looked up at the dark haired speaker, and her companion, who just smiled. “Kaminoke!! The same warrior called. The ground began to shake again, and a giant hairball rose from the ground.
