| These are the Gabels from whom I descend...starting with my grandfather, Kenneth Alonzo Gabel, and working back from his family. | Kenneth was born on December 15, 1900 in Sycamore Illinois, to Luora Ann Thornberry and Francis Alonzo (Frank) Gabel. Kenneth married Edith Creighton of Chicago, daughter of Walter Boston Creighton and Ida Schmitt, on September 14, 1924, in Chicago. Kenneth & Edith lived most of their lives in Muskegon, Michigan. Their son is my Dad, but for privacy reasons, I will not list him or immediate family. |

| Frank was born on May 11, 1876 in Sandwich, Illinois, to Elmira Cuthbert Wunder and Peter Gabel. He married Luora Ann Thornberry, daughter of James M Thornberry and Mary Elizabeth Foulke, on June 23, 1897, in Sycamore, Illinois. They lived most of their lives in Muskegon, Michigan. | Peter was born on September 10, 1825 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to George Gabel and Catherine Bauman. He married first Adelaide Brockerman, daughter of Charles and Mary Brockerman, in 1846 in the Kensington Ward of Philadelphia. Their daughter, Catherine I., was born in 1849, but both she and her mother died in 1852. Peter then married Elmira Cuthbert Wunder, daughter of Mercy Ann Cuthbert and William S Wunder in 1854, in Kensingtion. They left Pennsylvania in 1856, along with most of the Wunder family, travelling by covered wagon to Illinois, where they lived all of their lives. | George was born on March 26, 1783 in Red Hill, Upper Hanover Township, Pennsylvania to Johann Peter Gabel and Christina unknown. He married Catherine Bauman circa 1820 in Zieglerville, Lower Franklin Twp, Pennsylvania. Catherine was born on August 19, 1792 to Peter Bauman and Sophia Werner, in Upper Salford Twp, Pennsylvania. George & Catherine's children were: JOHN GABEL 1821 -? m SARAH UNKNOWN DANIEL GABEL 1824-? PETER GABEL 1825-1908 GEORGE GABEL 1826-? SAMUEL GABEL 1828-? ****Now the mystery deepens...there should be SIX Gabel sons, by famiy lore, but I cannot locate the sixth. I suspect he is a WILLIAM, as my cousin has a family bible that states only "William Gabel, 1825". Are you a descendant of the other Gabel sons? Please email me! ****Also seeking more information on the BAUMAN (BAUMANN, BAUGHMAN) family of Montgomery County,PA. Catherine's parents were Peter Bauman and Sophia Werner (based on baptismal records), but I have no further information. |
| WHO IS JOHANN PETER'S FATHER....?! ....by following baptismal records of the St Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Hill, PA, his likely parents are JOHANN PHILIP GABEL (1698-1774/9) and ELIZABETH CATHERINE CULMANN (1705-?) Their son, Johann Peter Gabel was born on January 2, 1737 in Germany, and he could conceivably (no pun intended) be the Johann Peter Gabel who married Christina unknown, as children listed as offspring of Peter & Christina show up from 1766-1787 in the St Paul records. One of those children, George Gabel, is the George listed above (and my ggggfather), his birth date verified by multiple censuses and birth & baptismal records, so I know I'm close.... As far as I know, there is no other Peter Gabel in the area of the right age, and one record calls him Johann Peter, Peder, and Peter. Thoughts? Insights? Ideas? Email me, I'm itching to solve this one! |
