Music Listening Activity

During the first three days of the unit we listened to different genres of music. I thought this was an appropriate way to not only set the tone of the unit, but to help students understand/comprehend the differences and similarities between music of different genre.  This also gave students the opportunities to analyze, evaluate, and judge the music.  All critical thinking skills that they would need to start exploring, especially since these are the same skills they will use when reading literature.  I wanted students to see that if they could figure out the meaning of a song, the instruments used, the rhythm, the theme, the climaxes, and style that they could apply those same techniques when we read literature in the classroom.
