Music Unit

Welcome to my MUSIC PAGE!

The Music Unit was designed as an effort to get my students engaged in learning about music in relation to English Language Arts.

After the first nine weeks I noticed a huge drop in attention span after we spent a great deal of time focusing on Grammar, Reading Skills, and Writing.

I decided to spice up my class by introducing material that I knew middle school students could relate to: music.

Every since I started teaching I have always believed that the key to having an engaged class is to provide material that relates to their lives.  In looking at a variety of music I wanted them to not only begin to understand all the genres of music, but the powerful effect music has had on literature and our lives.

I also realized that after looking over my GPS standards that the music unit would enable me to "unpack" many of the standards that I wanted to accomplish in the nine weeks as well as correlated to many of the GPS standards that we at WBMS had reserved for 7th ELA during that time period.
