Music and Its Relation to Southern Lit

Description

This section of the Music Unit was to heighten the students awareness of the relationship to Southern Culture.  Since I had recently finished a class on Southern Literature at Piedmont I really wanted to incorporate that in my teaching.

This section focused on the Southern Vernacular.  Students learned about the following genres of literature: spirituals, gospel, working man's song, blues, country, as well as ballads and lyrics.

The Southern Literature project read a variety of literature and incorporated critical thinking skills such as analyzing, observing, inferring, judging, evaluating, and hypothesizing.

The PowerPoint that I did the first day is on the Southern Literature Project web page.

The Southern Lit. Project is on the Southern Literature Project web page.
