OTHER VAMPIRES

Akbar

Akbar, a powerful vampire, was burnt when the Mother and Father, Akasha and Enkil, were put into the sun. He resides in Antioch, in search of the Mother and Father, and leaves his victims on the steps of the Temple.

Akbar threatens to kill Pandora unless Marius allows him to see and drink from the ancient couple. He drains Pandora to near death before Marius allows him to see the Mother and Father, and is later destroyed by Akasha when he attempts to drink from her.

Azim

Azim was one of the older vampires. He ruled as a god for a thousand years in a secret temple in the Himalayas, where those who went to worship him never returned alive.

He conducted disturbing rituals and entices Pandora to participate in them in return for Marius' location (when Marius gets trapped in the ice after Akasha awakens).

Akasha spares him during her worldwide slaughter, but for a purpose. She sees him as the ultimate symbol of vampire evil and explodes his body in front of human witnesses.

Benji

A spirited boy of twelve, Benji was bought from a nomadic Arab tribe by Sybelle's brother Fox to care for Sybelle, which Benji loved to do. Benji was the genius of the tribe, able to read English, Hebrew and Arabic, and was bought from the tribe under the terms of a long-term lease of bondage for which Fox paid Benji's father five thousand dollars.

Benji prayed for a demon to take his soul if only to save Sybelle from her violent brother, Fox. His prayers were answered (in a way) when Armand (after going into the sun) killed Fox. Benji, along with Sybelle, become Armand's mortal children, and he his later made a vampire by Marius.

Daniel Molloy

Daniel was the recorder of Louis' confession that later became the story Interview with the Vampire. Born in 1955, Daniel comes across Armand in 1975, after he had recorded Louis' story.

He becomes Armand's mortal companion, but conflicts drive them apart. Armand continually refuses Daniel's requests for immortality.

Daniel turns to alcohol and becomes a mortal recipient of the dream of the twins. In 1985, Armand gives Daniel (who is dying) immortal life. He survives Akasha's worldwide slaughter of vampires.

Druid Vampire (God of the Grove)

The Druid Vampire, also known as the God of the Grove, was kept in an oak tree by the Druids to preside over their harvest and to ensure the fertility of their land. He was badly burnt when Akasha and Enkil were placed in the sun, and as a result of his weakened state, the Druids went in search for another god.

The Druids abduct Marius and return him to their god, who subsequently makes Marius a vampire. He is destroyed by the Druids when he tries to accompany Marius in search of reasons as to why so many vampires where burnt.

Elder

An ancient Egyptian vampire, the Elder was the guardian of Akasha and Enkil prior to Marius. He was the cause of vampires everywhere being burnt (himself included), when he placed the ancient couple in the sun.

He does this to test the legend that the preservation or destruction of Akasha and Enkil is the determinant in the survival of the vampire race.

When Marius comes to remove the ancient couple from the Elder's care, the Elder becomes enraged and is killed by Akasha.

Eric

Eric was made a vampire by Maharet around BC1000 at the mortal age of thirty. He survives Akasha's worldwide slaughter due to his immortal age of three thousand years and is one of the immortals that gather at Sonoma to stand against Akasha.

Flavius

Flavius is a one-legged Greek mortal slave who Pandora falls in love with in Antioch. He becomes Pandora's companion and protector even after she is made a vampire.

To the disgust of Marius, Pandora makes Flavius a vampire as he lay on his deathbed riddled with disease. He was forty years old.

When Marius discovers what Pandora has done, he sends Flavius away. Before he left, Flavius thanked Pandora for the immortality she gave him.

Laurent

Laurent is a vampire Baby Jenks meets during Akasha's worldwide slaughter of vampires. He is killed during this event. (He may or may not be the same Laurent from Armand's first Parisian coven — this is unclear.)

Madeleine

Madeleine was a Parisian doll maker who Claudia chose to be her mother and protector when Claudia feared Louis would leave her for Armand.

She was killed by Armand's coven, together with Claudia, the same year she was given immortal life. She had lost a child near Claudia's age when Louis made her a vampire, in 1862. Madeleine was the first vampire made by Louis.

Magnus

Magnus, the maker of Lestat, gave himself immortality during the 1400s when he trapped a vampire and stole blood from it. He chose to make Lestat a vampire because of his courage.

On the same night he made Lestat a vampire, during the year 1780, he destroyed himself in a fire, leaving Lestat alone to discover and learn about his immortality.

Musician Vampire

A mortal companion of Lestat's prior to Claudia's attack, he wrote disturbing musical compositions that fascinated Lestat. According to Louis, the friendship between Lestat and the mortal musician had gone on longer than any other mortal friendship of Lestat's.

When Lestat disappears (disposed of in swamp lands by Claudia and Louis), the musician searches for him. He returns as a vampire when Lestat reappears, prior to Louis and Claudia's flee from New Orleans.

Nicolas de Lenfent

The eldest son of a draper, Nicolas had been sent to school in Paris. During his first term studying law in Paris, Nicolas fell in love with the violin. Subsequently, he dropped everything and even took lessons from Wolfgang Mozart. He did nothing but play the violin until he failed his examinations.

Nicolas befriends Lestat when they are both mortals, and presents to him a fur-lined coat and boots as a token of the townspeople's appreciation for him killing the wolves. Together, in 1779, they go to Paris, where they join a small theatre.

He grows bitter after Lestat becomes a vampire, drinking heavily, and Armand's coven abducts Nicolas in an attempt to lure Lestat to them. Despite warnings from Gabrielle, Lestat makes Nicolas a vampire (in 1780), which only makes Nicolas more depressed. He reveals to Lestat that they were supposed to fail in Paris and that he despises him.

He goes on to become one of the creators of the Théâtre des Vampires, writing plays, where Armand must eventually restrain him in order to control him. Armand even removes Nicolas hands, to prevent him from playing the violin. In 1789, Nicolas destroys himself in fire.

Sybelle

A woman of twenty-five and a beautiful pianist, Sybelle's parents were killed in a car accident. Following the death of her parents, Sybelle's brother Fox looked after her, always getting her the time, the space, the good piano, and the teachers she needed. Fox even bought an Arab boy, Benji, to take care of her. He also started to abuse her.

She became a mortal child of Armand's following Armand saving Sybelle from her abusive brother. Sybelle often went with Armand when he hunted as she liked to see him feed and kill, and Marius later made her a vampire.

Vittorio

Born in central Italy in a mountaintop castle in 1434, Vittorio was made a vampire at the mortal age of sixteen. With thick brown hair down to his shoulders and hazel eyes, Vittorio was a beautiful boy for the time.

Vittorio was the son of an indomitable Lord, Lorenzo di Raniari, an old-fashioned man. His mother, a spirited and beautiful woman, with brown hair and green eyes, adored country life. Vittorio had two siblings, a brother, Matteo, four years younger and an excellent student, and a sister, Bartola, less than one year younger.

Vittorio learnt the skills and values of a knight and at age thirteen could ride in full battle dress. Educated in Florence until the age of thirteen, Vittorio had been deep into the boys' pageants and plays, often taking leading parts in dramas. He loved paintings, and to his knowledge, he had fathered one bastard child.

Shortly after he turned sixteen, a man dressed from head to toe in dark wine-red velvet came to Vittorio's father by night, demanding he tender to him those infants unwanted by anyone. Vittorio's father refused and shortly after, a coven of vampires attacked the castle, killing everyone. Vittorio saw his brother and sister murdered in front of him. One of the vampires, named Ursula, saved Vittorio from imminent death before vanishing.

Vittorio rode to a nearby town. That night, Ursula came to him, telling him he must go away, south to Florence, and forget all that's happened. Ursula had obvious affection for the young Vittorio. She gently feed from his neck, flooding his mind with images of the two of them in sexual passion.

Vittorio discovered the town was strangely free of sick and diseased children. He began asking question, and townspeople warned him about heading North.

Ignoring the townspeople's warnings, Vittorio headed North in search of the devils that killed his family. The coven of vampires captured him. Ursula begged them not to hurt Vittorio.

Vittorio discovered the coven went by the name of "The Court of the Ruby Grail". The coven took all the sick and diseased children and elderly people from nearby towns. Ursula begged both the Elderly one, Godric, and the Lord of the Court, Florian, to make Vittorio a member of their Court. Florian refused Ursula's pleas. Vittorio was dumped in the streets of Florence, his life spared.

Vittorio returned to the vampires castle by day, slaying them all, sparing Ursula. Ursula then tricked Vittorio into receiving her vampiric blood after first draining him, claiming it would free her of the demon blood.

He spends his vampire existence in clever, observant roaming and study, never provoking the slightest danger from his own kind, and never arousing their knowledge or suspicion. He claims to know nothing of that band of strange romantic vampires in and from the Southern New World city of New Orleans.

Other characters from Vittorio, The Vampire

Ursula

Over two-hundred years older the Vittorio, Ursula was a child bride to Florian. She was bought from her father. She made Vittorio a vampire.

Florian

The Lord of "The Court of the Ruby Grail", Vittorio described him as a fine imperial figure of a man with thick blondish hair. He was slain by Vittorio.

Godric

Godric was described as the Elderly one, his age quite true to his posture. He was also slain by Vittorio.

Armand's Coven

First Coven (around 1780)

After Lestat was made a vampire, he began to feel a "presence" following him. The feeling was especially strong around the cemetery. This "presence" turned out to be members of Armand's first coven and were described as having filthy hair, being draped in colourless rags, and possessing the stench of a graveyard.

Allesandra (also "Queen Vampire")

Before she became a part of Armand's first Parisian coven, Allesandra was part of Santino's satanic coven (the coven that took the immortal Armand from Marius). With tangled and filthy grey hair, and clothed in antique rags, Allesandra questioned Armand on "Those Who Must Be Kept".

Given the Dark Gift in the forests of France, and older than Santino, Allesandra went to Paris with Armand to lead an abandoned coven. She gave Armand his current name (previously Amadeo).

Clothed as an ancient queen might have been (to use Lestat's words) and older than Magnus (she was part of the coven from which Magnus stole the dark gift), the "queen vampire" exhibited a degree of lunacy and claims that predictions she has made have all come true upon Lestat and Gabrielle's capture by the coven.

Often by Armand's side, the "queen vampire" encourages Lestat and Gabrielle in their protests against the coven, and accepts the couple, saying she will never harm them. She commenced the destruction of Armand's coven by jumping into the fire to join Magnus (to use her words).

Eleni

Described as the dark-eyed and beautiful one in the coven, Eleni was one of the four vampires who survived Armand's destruction of his coven. She pleaded with Lestat to let her and the other survivors inside the former Renaud's theatre, which had been abandoned.

Eleni was later given control of the theatre, which became the Théâtre des Vampires, and continually wrote to Lestat as he travelled with Gabrielle. She informed Lestat that Armand had imprisoned Nicolas (and removed his hands), who later jumped into the flames during an ancient Sabbat. This final letter was sent with Nicolas' Stradivarius violin. What became of Eleni is unknown. She was not known to the vampires in Armand's second coven when Lestat returned to seek Armand's help.

Laurent

A vampire of mortal age sixteen years, Laurent strongly supported the burning of Lestat and Gabrielle for them not abiding the Dark Ways (rules created by Santino's Roman coven). He is one of the four survivors of Armand's coven and seeks Lestat's protection. Over two hundred years later, Laurent is burnt by Akasha, which Lestat saw through Akasha's visions.

Eugénie, Félix

Two of the other vampires who survived Armand's destruction of his coven, they seek Lestat's protection and become the first members of the Théâtre des Vampires. Akasha detroys Félix during her worldwide destruction of vampires.

Second Coven (around 1862)

Celeste

One of the actors in the Théâtre des Vampires, she is also one of the oldest vampires in the coven. Celeste is malevolent and envious of Claudia's youth and beauty.

Estelle

One of the actors in the Théâtre des Vampires, she informs Claudia that, amongst vampires, boredom is a cardinal crime and is equivalent to death.

Santiago

One of the actors in the Théâtre des Vampires, Santiago is the first vampire Louis and Claudia encounter in Paris.

Santiago informs Claudia that it is a crime, punishable by death, to kill your own kind. He leads the coven against Claudia and Louis after the coven finds out Claudia attempted to kill Lestat. He is killed in a confrontation when Louis sets fire to the coven's lair after Claudia is destroyed.

Fang Gang

A vampire coven of motorcycle riders who listen and dance to Lestat's music. Akasha destroys them on their way to Lestat's concert.

Baby Jenks

At the mortal age of fourteen, Baby Jenks was made a vampire by Killer following a fatal abortion. Baby Jenks was a prostitute and drug addict as a mortal, and after becoming a vampire, she brutally murdered her parents.

Killer

One of the leaders of the Fang Gang, Killer is described as lean, long faced, with a gold earring. He became a vampire during the 1920's and made Baby Jenks a vampire.

Davis

Described as a black dead guy, Davis decked himself in gold jewellery from his victims, and loved to dance.

Russ, Tim

The other two members of the Fang Gang.
