I have a few tomato plants in the back yard. I will try to get a picture for you.
Last year I had a planted pot of flowers for our deck but this year I put some cold lettuce in it real early in the spring. I did not get any pictures of it but I can tell you that early lettuce is very frost resistant and it sure tasted good mixed with store bought lettuce. After the lettuce went by (I had 2 plantings), I started my little herb garden in the same very large plastic pot so I could keep it going into the fall and winter in the house. Here in Maine Jack Frost comes very early and my little garden would catch a cold and things would wilt fast.
I began by placing a medium size pot upside down in the bottom then surrounding it with light “filler” material. That filled it about half full. Next I made a mix of soil, peat, and fertilizer.  Now it is not too heavy and I can bring it inside without much trouble and it should carry me through till Dec. when we fly south. If I should use too much of one herb I will be able to replace it or try something new. This should make a wonderful back door kitchen garden.
I planted;
French Tarragon - Artemisia Dracunculas, Varity of Stutiva.
Curley Parsley – Petroselinum Crispun
Wooly Thyme – Thymus serphyllum langinosus
White Edged Sage – Salvia Officinalis
Red Rubin Basil – Ocimum Basilicum
Dill – Anethungraveolens, Parsley family.

I also have some Egyptian onions that I use as I would regular onions. The “onion” is on the top.
I have some “garlic chives” that I use in salads and in some sauces.
I use most of these herbs in a variety of pasta sauce’s, salad dressings, dips, soups, and as garnishes.
I intend on searching new and fun recipes to try. I have some old recipes that I will use too. You may find a few on my recipe page.
