Stratum Granulosum

The thin layer of the epidermis is the granulosum.  It is made up of only a few layers of cells and is just below the stratum lucidum.

The cells of the stratum granulosum fill with keratin which are in a form of granules. They die as they continue upwards to reach the top layer.
