One of the final duties of the Apollo School Founding Committee is to announce the results of the election to choose three parent representatives to the Board of Directors.  The votes were counted at Anselm Dines’ house on the evening of July 10, beginning at 7 PM.  Present were the members of the Founding Committee and Tenley Stillwell, of The Colorado League of Charter Schools, as objective outside observer and election judge.

The three parent Board positions have been filled by David Segal, Peter Bemski and Andrea Till.

The three parents who received the most votes were, in order of the vote count, Rita Gibson, David Segal and Peter Bemski.  Rita Gibson declined to serve on the Board.  David Segal and Peter Bemski both accepted their positions on the Board.  On the morning of July 11, Anselm Dines notified Ruth Montoya that Rita Gibson had declined to accept a position on the Board and that according to the vote count, she was next in line to receive an appointment.  Ruth Montoya also declined to accept a position on the Board.  The next candidate in line, according to the vote count, was Andrea Till and she accepted the position to the Board.

The members of the Founding Committee would like to thank all of the candidates for taking the time to run in this election and for taking an interest in our school.  We regret that two of the top vote-getters chose not to serve on the Board at this time.  Their talents and expertise will be missed.  We would also like to thank the candidates who have accepted their positions on the Board for their willingness to donate their time and energy, and for their commitment to the highly gifted and twice exception children of Denver.

We would like to thank all the parents who have pre-registered their children and taken part in this election by voting and filling out forms indicating their willingness to do committee work.  There is a lot to be done before Fall of 2001 and we will need everyone to participate.

Last, but not least, we would like to thank Tenley Stillwell for her help in our election and The Colorado League of Charter Schools for their support and advice.

The Founding Committee will have one last meeting to make a list of recommendations to the Board and to officially disband.  The time and location of our first Board meeting will be forthcoming.
