Resolution #2677 Apollo School

Whereas, the Board of Education has received an application for approval of a charter school referred to as "Apollo School"; and

Whereas, The Board of Education has considered the application materials and information from the public, the State Board of Education, and school district administrators;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that:

    1. The charter application for the Apollo School is approved subject to the following conditions.
    1. The school shall open for the 2001-2002 School year.
    2. The school shall open with a program for Highly Gifted students in grades 1st- 8th, as described in the application.
    3. The school shall have minimum enrollment of 60 students, with maximum enrollments of 100 students for the first year, 140 students for the second year, 180 students for the third year, 200 students for the fourth year, and 220 students for the fifth year.
    4. The school shall not operate a program for grades 9 through 12 unless such a program has been submitted to and approved by, the Board of Education.
    5. The school shall be located at a site consistent with the application and acceptable to the school district, which site shall be identified and approved by March 1, 2001.
    6. By March 1, 2001, the school shall submit a revised budget reflecting the actual costs of the site secured by it and sufficient to begin and continue the educational program described in the application.
    7. By March 1, 2001, the school shall submit for school district approval plans to approach and identify Highly Gifted students whose special needs and abilities place them at risk, and a plan to identify such students within the population as a whole.
    8. By March 1, 2001, the school shall present a plan acceptable to the school district for meeting the needs of English language learners.
    9. By April 1, 2001, the school shall provide the district with commitments for a t least 75 percent of any startup or facility renovation funding necessary to open the school.
    10. By April 1, 2001, the school shall provide the district with written enrollment commitments from at least 45 students, setting forth names and other information necessary to enroll those students.

2. The applicant and school district staff shall develop and submit to the Board of Education for approval, a charter contract consistent with the application, the Charter Schools and the foregoing conditions.
